Shangri-La at the Shard opening delayed

The much anticipated opening of the Shangri-La at The Shard has been delayed until the autumn.

The luxury hotel, set in the spire of the Shard at over 1,000ft high (310m), was understood to be slated to open next month, in June, but has now been delayed until September.

A spokesperson from Shangri-La confirmed: "We are pleased to confirm that the new Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London is scheduled to open in September 2013."

The Shard is now one of Europe's tallest buildings. The 202 deluxe room hotel will feature over-size rooms (42sq m), the "Shangri La Bed", iPod docking stations, complimentary Wi-Fi, coffee machines and butler service in all suites.

Three dining options will be available, including a gourmet deli on the ground floor, a destination restaurant and lounge on level 35, and a signature bar on level 52.

The hotel group's second property in Shanghai, the Jing An Shangri La Puxi is still on course to open on 29 June.
