Rural health clinic and estate carries £8m price tag
The UK's first privately-owned health clinic, which has been put on the market for £8m, may interest buyers seeking an extensive country house hotel estate.
Shrubland Hall is set on a chalk escarpment within 250 acres of woodland and parkland in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
"Shrubland Hall offers such a unique opportunity. With its magnificent setting and ease of access from the A14, it may offer potential for an alternative use such as a country house hotel and leisure facility," said Dominic Mayes, partner at Knight Frank which is marketing the property.
The estate is currently owned by Lord de Saumarez and has been in the family since 1775. In 1965, his father converted the hall into the UK's first privately-owned health clinic.
The main building is a 31-bedroom 18th century hall, while the working estate incorporates seven lodges, a stable block, three secondary houses and 32 cottages.
The main hall is set in an extensive Italian-style garden, which falls away from the house to surround an imposing flight of 100 steps that lead down to a pool and fountain.
