Runners get Hotelympia off to flying start

Hotelympia got off to a running start yesterday when nearly 500 people put on their trainers to scamper 10km for hospitality charity Springboard.

The race, which started at 9.30am yesterday (19 February), kicked off the hospitality industry's biggest trade show at ExCel in London.

The event, which was sponsored by Aga Foodservice Equipment, attracted 21 teams from the sector with 80% of those who took part working in the industry. Of those, about 70% were first-time 10km runners.

The winner, in a staggering 32 minutes and 10 seconds, was Robert Cousins from Red Carnation Hotels.

Julia Palmer of Crystaltec won the women's section finishing in 42 minutes and 41 seconds.

The winning team was from Bunzl.
