Royal wedding boon for hotels
The royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton looks set to provide a boon to hotels in London over the specially-created bank holiday on 28-30 April 2011.
Early data has showed a boost to both hotel occupancy and the average daily rate (ADR) from a survey of 76 hotels in the capital by marketing intelligence firm Rubicon.
Rubicon's research showed that hotel business was improving in both the group and transient sectors - business occupancy levels for Friday 29 April - the day of the Royal Wedding itself - are already up 201%, while transient business was up 243% year-on-year.
However, group ADR is down 19% on 28 April 2011 and down 25% on 30 April 2011. Despite that, all ADR is up for the night of 29 April. Group ADR is up 3.2% that night while transient ADR is up 39.9%.
Rubicon believes that the figures are likely to keep on improving as the royal wedding draws closer.
