Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2014 winners unveiled

A host of UK restaurants have been announced as winners at the 2014 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, including Ametsa with Arzak Instruction (pictured), and the Hutong Shard.

Ametsa with Arzak Instruction was designed by Ab Rogers Design, and won best restaurant or bar in a hotel; while the Hutong Shard, by Into Lighting & David Yeo, won best lighting scheme.

Other winners included One Canada Square, by David Collins Studio, which won best restaurant or bar in a retail space; Beagle, by Fabled Studio, which won best London restaurant; and Christopher's Bar, by De Matos Ryan, which won best restaurant or bar in a heritage building.

Whyte & Brown (Blacksheep; standalone restaurant) also won, as did Tap On The Line in Richmond (by Concorde BGW; best Pub), Cornerstone Café (Paul Crofts Studio; best fast/casual); Ping Pong Wembley (Superfutures; best multiple restaurant); and the Vintry (Harrison; best multiple bar or club).

Other notable UK winners included the Magazine, by Zaha Hadid Architects (best restaurant or bar in another space), the Sleep Bar pop-up by Nous Design (best pop-up), and Topolski, by B3 Designers (best London bar).

There were 31 winners overall, with best restaurant going to Les Haras, a restaurant in Strasbourg, France, designed by Jouin Manku; and best bar awarded to F.E.I. in Guangzhou, China, designed by A.N.D.

Last year's UK winners included Tramshed, and Kitchen Table, the latter of which incidentally won its first Michelin star last week.

Scottish-based brewing company BrewDog also took home the Outside award for its Brazilian site, in São Paulo, which was designed by CM Design Consultants.

Now in their sixth year, the awards aim to honour and celebrate the best designs in restaurants and bars in more than 70 countries around the world, including the UK and internationally.

Organised by the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards group, the ceremony took place this year at London's Old Truman Brewery on 25 September. The group aims to highlight innovative design across all premises, from Michelin-starred one-off restaurants to particularly interesting examples of chain brands.
