Planning submitted for 40-bedroom hotel in Royal Deeside

A planning application has been submitted for the development of a 40-bedroom hotel, conference centre and spa on the Ballogie Estate on Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire.

The £7m project will incorporate the renovation of the former Portarch hotel, alongside the building of accommodation, a spa with six treatment rooms and wedding and events venue for up to 150 guests. An 80-seat bistro-style restaurant will be included in the new hotel.

Subject to receiving planning and building warrant, work will start on the Ballogie Hotel & Spa next year, with a projected opening in summer 2016. The project is expected to create 45 jobs.

Randall Nicol, partner in Ballogie Estate Enterprises, said that the new hotel will enjoy "a unique place" in Scottish tourism.

"We will combine these to provide a unique destination experience which will attract more visitors to Royal Deeside and be a magnet for local residents."

Ballogie Estate Enterprises is a family run rural business, dating back to 1850, which incorporates livestock farming, cropping, forestry and field sports.
