Overseas buyer for Perthshire country hotel

The four-star Coll Earn House hotel in the commuter town of Auchterarder has been bought by an overseas buyer who has been a frequent guest at the Perthshire property.

The hotel, which is set in seven acres of gardens, was constructed in 1870 as a country house and exhibits many of the extravagances and eccentricities of 19th century architecture. Retained period features include stained and leaded glass panels and fireplaces.

Along with eight ‘superior' bedrooms, the hotel offers a 35-seat restaurant, a lounge-bar, a detached four-bedroom residence for owners and permission to build another, three-bedroom, house on the grounds.

The hotel, which features in the Michelin guide, is a popular venue for business conferences, small weddings and family gatherings.

The Edinburgh office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off a guide price of £2.75m on behalf of Jim and Aileen Lindsay.
