New York's NoMad hotel set for London

The exact location of the property is yet to be revealed, but Andrew Zobler, founder and chief executive of Sydell Group, the company behind the NoMad brand, confirmed that he is close to announcing the details of the venture, which is expected to have around 100-bedrooms.

It will be Zobler's second hotel opening in London. Sydell Group has spent the past five years on creating the 252-bedroom Ned hotel - due to open in the City of London at the end of the month - in collaboration with Soho House & Co.

Featuring eight restaurants, a spa and members' club, the Ned has been dubbed as "London's most ambitious hotel project".

Zobler exclusively told The Caterer: "I have been travelling to London once a month for the past five years and must have looked at around 100 potential properties before coming across a building with a rich architectural history which will be transformed into our first NoMad outside of the United States."

Zobler is renowned for taking historical buildings in run down neighbourhoods and transforming them into hotels deeply rooted in their location and architecture.

The 168-bedroom NoMad hotel in New York has been a hit with guests and critics alike since opening in 2012. Located in an early 20th century Beaux-Arts building, once occupied by offices, the interiors are designed by French designer Jacques Garcia, who has provided "a fresh take on the classic grand hotels of Europe with a distinct New York sensibility". Three-Michelin-starred, Swiss-born chef Daniel Humm and restaurateur Will Guidara run the hotel's restaurant. Humm's stand-alone restaurant Eleven Madison Park has just been voted to the number one spot on the World's 50 Best Restaurant list.

Two further NoMad hotels are currently are under construction in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Sydell Group has a total of six hotels open across four brands - Line, Freeland and Saguaro, alongside NoMad - with a further six hotels under development.

Sydell Group is financially backed by Ron Burkle, the investor who is also behind Soho House & Co. Zobler, a lawyer by profession, launched Sydell Group in 2005, having previously been a partner and vice-president of André Balazs Properties and senior vice-president of acquisitions and development for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Two of Sydell Groups' earliest projects were the development of Ace New York and Ace Palm Springs.
