New Scottish site for Malmaison

Malmaison has secured a new Scottish property, the Queen's hotel, in Aberdeen for £5.5m.

The boutique hotel group plans to spend a further £7.5m on refurbishing the property when it closes in January next year.

The new 82-bedroom Malmaison is due to reopen in April 2008 with an innovative brasserie featuring a butchers and fishmongers. Guests will be able to pick their dinner on their way in, before it is cooked on an open grill in the middle of the restaurant.

Malmaison chief executive Robert Cook said: "The buterchy and fishmongers are what Aberdeen's all about and we want to capitalise on that."

The group is still looking for a site in St Andrews for a Hotel du Vin and plans to open five hotels in both 2007 and 2008.
