Michael Purtill to replace Kate Levin as GM of the Capital hotel

Seasoned hotelier Michael Purtill is to take over as general manager of the Capital hotel, London, replacing Kate Levin who is going on maternity leave.

Purtill's most recent position was as general manager overseeing the transformation of the Palace hotel in Manchester to the Principal hotel as it joined the new brand of city centre, lifestyle properties. He had previously worked for 13 years with Four Seasons, including his first general manager position in Canary Wharf, London, before moving to the same role at the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet in 2014.

Earlier in his career, Purtill worked at Ashdown Park, East Sussex; Turnberry Resort, Ayrshire; and Chewton Glen, Hampshire.

In his new role, which he starts on 29 November, he will also oversee the 12-bedroom Levin hotel, 12 Capital apartments and the London Bakery.

"Kate is a wonderful hotelier and I will truly enjoy leading the hotels and protecting the legacy that she and her father so lovingly created," said Purtill. "The capital is a beautiful hotel, focused on excellence, quality and traditional values, where guests are treated as individuals in a home from home environment."

The 49-bedroom, five-red-AA-star Capital was founded by David Levin, Kate's father in 1970. The family sold the hotel earlier this year to US-based Warwick Hotels and Resorts.

Kate Levin's final day at the Capital will be on 1 December, four weeks before her baby is due.
