Marriott announces first Edition lifestyle hotel in Hawaii
The first Edition - the new lifestyle hotel brand from Marriott International - will be launched in Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, in October.
Created by Ian Schrager - the founder of the boutique hotel concept 26 years ago - Edition intends to be the first global branded lifestyle hotel with up to 100 properties open or in the pipeline in the next 10 years.
Each hotel will be individually designed using inspiration from the locality - and will vary in size. The Waikiki Edition will be a 353-bedroom resort property, while the second hotel, in Istanbul, will have 77 bedrooms.
Schrager, who is best known for desinging the Royalton and Paramount hotels in New York and St Martin's Lane and the Sanderson in London, is described as the creative consultant of Edition and is providing the vision for the concept, design and marketing, while Marriott will have the ultimate decisions on design and concept as well as operations.
"People do not want something derivative," said Schrager. "They want the real thing and this is the whole idea behind Edition."
The Waikiki Edition will include a restaurant by celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto, the Crazybox nightclub, a Sunrise Pool, a Sunset Beach, a hidden Lobby Bar, and Surf and Bikini Boot Camps which intend to offer the ultimate in physical fitness and dramatic weight loss.
London is among the gateway cities around the world that are being considered as locations for an Edition hotel.
