Man, 31, charged with murder following Aberystwyth hotel blaze

A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fire at the Belgrave House hotel, Aberystwyth, in July.

The body of Juozas Tunaitis, a contractor who had been working as a fire safety officer at Aberystwyth University, was recovered from the building in September.

Damion Anthony Harris, of Aberystwyth, has been charged with his murder as well as causing grievous bodily harm with intent to another hotel guest.

Tunaitis' family has been informed of the charge and are being supported by officers.

Temporary detective chief inspector Neil Jenkins said: "Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Tunaitis at this time, and we will continue to support them through the criminal justice process.

"We would also like to thank the community in Aberystwyth for their support and patience during what has been an intense investigation so far."

Harris appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates Court last week and will next appear at Swansea Crown Court.
