King to launch new company after Thistle

Thistle Hotels boss Beverly King is to start up a new hotel investment and operating company once he leaves the hotel group at the end of the year.

He plans to start his new hotel investment company, which is backed by a European investor, on 3 January.

He refused to reveal the new company's name but added it would be investing in bricks-and-mortar as well as management contracts for hotels at the "upper end of the market." He said the aim was to have a group of self-owned and operated properties.

"It's a really exciting opportunity. My family were hoteliers and I've lived in the business since I was five years old," King said.

King has been with Thistle since 2002. Tim Scoble, former chief executive of Little Chef, will replace King at Thistle.
