Kimpton to add two hotels in New York
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is to double its presence in New York City with two newly developed boutique/lifestyle hotels in Manhattan. The two developments include the Kimpton Vu Hotel, a 222-room property housed in a 16-storey building overseeing Hudson River and the Midtown Manhattan skyline. Opening next spring, the hotel will feature 4,600sq ft of meeting space; a full service spa; and a 2,000sq ft roof-top bar and roof deck with water features. The second property, which will open in 2009, is a 287-room hotel in Chelsea, which will include a 3,000sq ft ballroom; 8,000sq ft of meeting space; more than 6,000sq ft of outdoor terrace space and a full-service spa. Restaurant operator China Grill Management will operate a restaurant and two bars in a multi-level venue and the property will also include 270 residential apartments.
St. Regis adds three properties in Asia PacificStarwood is adding three St. Regis Hotels & Resorts properties in Asia Pacific in a move that will quadruple the brand's portfolio in the region. The new properties include St. Regis's first hotels in Japan and Thailand with the opening of the St. Regis Hotel Osaka and the St. Regis Hotel & Residences Bangkok. St. Regis is also adding its third property in China with the opening of the St. Regis Hotel Tianjin. The three properties are scheduled to open between 2009 and 2011.
Hilton to develop six Hampton Inn properties in MexicoHilton Hotels Corporation has revealed development plans with Mexican hotel development company Tenedora Augusta, which, under the agreement, will work actively to develop six Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites focused-service hotels within throughout Mexico within the next three years. The company will operate the hotels under Hampton Inn franchise agreements. Among the cities and destinations targeted are Tijuana, Queretaro, Guadalajara, Cancun and Monterrey. Tenedora Augusta will receive certain preferred development rights in return for meeting certain goals and timetables.
Conrad to launch first hotel in South AmericaConrad Hotels & Resorts is to launch its first property in South America with the opening of the Conrad Buenos Aires in Argentina. Construction of the Conrad Buenos Aires is expected to begin in 2008 and completion is scheduled for early 2010. Located in the Puerto Madero district within Argentina's capital, the 190-room hotel will feature a signature restaurant, a lobby bar, fitness facilities and close to 7,000sq ft of meeting space. Conrad Hotels & Resorts currently has 17 properties in urban and resort destinations worldwide. New properties are in conversion in the Maldives and under development in Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, the Bahamas and Koh Samui, Thailand.
