InterContinental boosts its Russian presence and other international hotel news

InterContinental boosts its Russian presenceInterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is increasing its presence in Russia with the opening of two new Holiday Inn hotels in St Petersburg in 2009. The first hotel will be the 80-room Holiday Inn St Petersburg-Moskovsky Prospect situated midway between the city centre and airport. It will include four restaurants, six bars, a swimming pool and 3,000sq m of meeting rooms. The second hotel will be a 129-room property in the tourist area Ligovsky. Restored from an office building, the hotel will include a restaurant, bar, fitness centre and three meeting rooms.

Hilton to Doubletree brand in Thailand
Hilton has unveiled plans to introduce its Doubletree brand in Thailand. The first property, which is scheduled to open in March 2007, will be the 358-room golf resort Doubletree Gold Resort and Spa in Chon Buri's Si Racha. The property will be owned by Destination Properties, a resort real estate developer based in Thailand. The rooms and suites will overlook the Si Racha Golf Club, with views of the golf course and the Gulf of Thailand. The golf course was designed by veteran golf champion Gary Player.

Accor to launch new Indian hotels
Accor is planning to increase its presence in India through the launch of new hotels covering the full spectrum of the Indian hotel market ranging from the budget to the upper-end market. In the budget sector, the company plans to develop 100 Formule 1 hotels in city locations, with two properties scheduled to open in the next two years. In the mid-scale market, Accor will launch a 320-room Novotel in New Delhi, which set to open in 2008. Accor's top-end Sofitel brand will see the addition of two new properties including a hotel in Mumbai and the group's first resort in Goa, both scheduled to open in 2009.

Fairmonts makes new appointments and promotions
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has made eight appointments and promotions at both the corporate and property level. Fred Lawlor has been named vice-president, procurement function for the company's four brands on a global basis. Eric Malcolmson has been appointed as vice-president of development. Sharon Cohen has taken over the role of loyalty marketing director. David Erlich has promoted to regional spa director at Fairmont Spas. Janet Omido has been named sales and marketing director for Fairmont's operations in Kenya. Michelle Gilman-Jasen has been promoted to regional sales and marketing director, California. David Burt has been appointed as sales and marketing director at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. Guy Bittner has been named food and beverage director at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
