London Edition

For the Edition Hotels brand, human resources is better known as ‘employee experience', and the team at London Edition certainly delivers exceptional experiences for the hotel's staff. It is made up of Jon Dawson, director of human resources; Michael Crow, human resources manager; Charlie Brodie, head of talent and training; Holly Dixon, human resources officer and Adrienne Muir, human resources co-ordinator.

Together they are responsible for a total of 350 employees across the hotel, which comprises 173 bedrooms, three events rooms, Berners Tavern, the Punch Room bar, lobby bar and basement nightclub.

The team has been instrumental in implementing the people strategy, which has helped contribute to the success of the Edition brand as it grows rapidly on a global scale. The Edition experience begins with the application process, where the company engages with potential candidates through interviews in the hotel's food and beverage (F&B) outlets and talent evenings in locations such as art galleries and museums.

All new employees experience the hotel as a guest before starting employment, and are given a budget to sample the F&B sites during their stay. The induction day begins with breakfast in Berners Tavern, before meeting the whole hotel team for a briefing. Employees start their first day at the London Edition in the nightclub, followed by a day of hotel tours, brand masterclasses and culture training, finishing with a drink on the employee terrace bar.

Employees are asked to learn and recite the Edition ethos to the general manager within one week of joining the company. When this has been done, they receive an exclusive employee Edition black card, allowing access to special employee events.

One of the Edition core values is ‘enchantment', and the aim of the employee experience team is to enchant employees with the business, so that they, in turn, enchant guests in the hotel, restaurants and bars.
