Hilton Worldwide has no plans to remove room service from UK hotels

Hilton Worldwide said that it has no intention of scrapping room service across its portfolio of UK hotels after one of its New York properties decided to ditch the offer.

In its place, the hotel is introducing the Herb ‘n' Kitchen concept, a type of "grab-and-go" retail offer selling flatbread pizzas and sandwiches alongside Illy coffees.

A spokesperson for New York Hilton Midtown said: "This offering is currently unique to New York Hilton Midtown and we have no current plans to roll out the initiative more broadly.

"Each property is unique and any such decisions to eliminate room service would be made on a property-by-property basis if we determine that it would allow us to meet the needs of our guests more effectively."

The actions of New York Hilton Midtown reflect the increasing demand for informal dining, making the traditional room service of old - involving dishes served under silver cloches on trolleys - appear increasingly dated.
