Hilton Worldwide has Europe's largest number of hotel rooms in development
Hilton Worldwide has the largest number of hotel rooms under construction in Europe, with more than 15,000 in its active pipeline, according to new figures.
Research from STR Global shows that Hilton has 15,411 rooms in the active pipeline and 8,643 under construction, which is 12.4% and 14% respectively of the industry total. Together, the total number of these rooms equate to 83 hotels.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development Hilton Worldwide Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the past 12 months has been a record-breaking period for Hilton Worldwide in Europe, which has resulted in the company moving ahead of its competitors.
"Over the last few years, brands that have been new to Europe have gained great momentum - and now have a considerable presence in key strategic development markets across the region, including the UK, Germany, Italy and Turkey," he said. "We've exceeded development targets in 2010 and have reason to be even more optimistic about the year ahead."
Twenty-two Hilton Worldwide hotels with 3,366 rooms opened in Europe last year. The company currently operates 205 hotels across 30 European countries.
Recent openings in the UK include the 214-bedroom DoubleTree by Hilton London - West End, which has recently undergone a multi-million transformation from its former life as the Park Inn London, Russell Square.
It is the eighth DoubleTree by Hilton upscale brand to open in the UK. The property is owned by the Crimson Hotel Group and managed under a franchise agreement by Hilton Worldwide.
Tomorrow sees the opening in West London of the 137-bedroom London Syon Park, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel - the fourth of Hilton Worldwide's luxury brand to open in Europe.
