Griffiths takes third in Young Chefs contest

A Welsh chef struck gold in the World Junior Chefs' Challenge in New Zealand last week when he was voted the world's third best young chef.

Gary Griffiths, 20-year-old junior sous chef at the Castle hotel in Conwy, was one of just five out of 25 competing chefs to win a gold medal at the contest, held at the World Association of Cooks' Society Congress in Auckland.

Participants had three-and-a-half hours in which to devise and cook a three-course meal from a mystery box of ingredients.
