Green House named Considerate Hotel of the Year

The Green House in Bournemouth has been named Considerate Hotel of the Year.

Having undergone an 18 month refurbishment throughout which the environmental impact of each decision was taken into account, the 32 room property was recognised for its efforts at the Considerate Hoteliers awards, held at the Landmark London.

Among the many measures introduced, the Green House features Energy Saving Trust certified kettles and, through its energy saving lighting, solar thermal panels and combined heat and power unit, it has significantly reduced electricity and gas use.

As well as purchasing locally, the hotel engages with local schools and businesses to promote sustainable practives.

The Green Team of the Year award went to the Savoy hotel in London, which was described as a leader in the field of sustainability, particularly in the competitive London five-star sector.

Savoy sustainability manager Debra Patterson said: "It is wonderful well-deserved recognition for the Savoy's sustainability team. Members are all volunteers across the hotel's departments who every day support and drive creative and imaginative solutions to help reduce our impact on the environment. We are all extremely proud of the team's achievement."

Meanwhile, Battlesteads owners Richard and Dee Slade walked off with the Good Egg award. The Northumberland based hoteliers were celebrated for their dedication to environmental, sustainable and socially responsible performance. Richard Slade said: "I was relaxed as I wasn't up for any awards so this was an absolute surprise. We're delighted."

Considerate Hoteliers executive director John Firrell said: "Each year, entrants show their innovation, dedication and passion via their ever increasing excellent standard of submissions. I am proud to say this year has been no different."
