Global association for hotel GMs changes name two months after launch

An international association designed to raise the profile of hotel general managers has changed its name less than two months after its initial launch.

The Honourable Order of International Hotel General Managers will now be known as the International Association of Hotel General Managers.

Membership is open to all current hotel general managers, as well as those who have previously served in the position, owner/operators and aspiring young professionals working towards the role. The association will provide a range of benefits for members, including healthcare and insurance.

The decision to change the body's name came about as a result of feedback received from members and the industry after its February launch.

Founder and president Leon Larkin said: "This is the first time an independent association with a global mandate has ever existed for hotel general managers and of course we are learning along the way.

"Our current name didn't convey clearly enough who and what we are, to the modern day GM. We have listened and our response has been quick."
