Fox Linton chosen for major revamp of Barnsley House

Barnsley House and its companion Village Pub, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, are to undergo an extensive renovation by leading interior designers Fox Linton.

Work on the pub has already begun, while the Grade II-listed Barnsley House, which was home to garden designer Rosemary Verey from 1951 to 2001, will partially close for refurbishment in February. The pub will re-open in January, with Barnsley House due to be relaunched in spring 2010.

The garden theme will be strongly reflected in the interiors by Fox Linton, whose past work has included the refurbishment of One Aldwych and the Dorchester Spa in London and the Grove in Hertfordshire.

"By reconnecting Barnsley House with Rosemary Verey's gardens one will compliment the other more fluidly and there will be a definite softening of the edges where presently there is some jarring," said Fox Linton's design director, Martin Hulbert. "Expect a refreshed look that will be exquisite, intimate and relaxed yet unconstrained, captivating, snappy, dashing and a little bit natty."

The 18-bedroom Barnsley House and the Village Pub were bought by the owners of Calcot Manor in nearby Tetbury for a sum thought to be in the region of £6.6m, in July 2009, after the property fell into administration.

"The hip, contemporary style for which this hotel is already known will be retained and enhanced, however a greater spotlight will now be placed on the heritage, setting and romance of the property," said managing director of Barnsley House and Calcot Manor, Richard Ball.
