Exclusive Hotels and Venues to buy Castle Inn in Castle Combe

Exclusive Hotels and Venues is to acquire the 11-bedroom Castle Inn, adjacent to its five-AA-star, 48-bedroom Manor House hotel in Castle Combe, Wiltshire.

The sale of the property, which dates back to the 12th century, by private owner Bill Cross will complete on 30 January. All of the current staff will remain with the business.

The Castle Inn will join Exclusive Hotels and Venues' existing portfolio which, in addition to the Manor House, includes a further three five-AA-star hotels: Pennyhill Park in Bagshot, Surrey; South Lodge in Lower Bedding, West Sussex; and Lainston House, near Winchester, Hampshire; as well as two luxury venues: Fanhams Hall, Ware, Hertfordshire; and Royal Berkshire, Ascot, Berkshire.

Danny Pecorelli, managing director of Exclusive Hotels and Venues and 2014 Hotelier of the Year, said that the Castle Inn was set in "a beautiful location" in the heart of Castle Combe and would be "a natural fit with the individual personality and design of Manor House and the rest of the business".

He added that the bedrooms at Castle Inn, which were refurbished only 18 months ago, were in "a beautiful condition", but he intends to invest money in front of house to move the business forward with the possible addition of a microbrewery.

The acquisition of Castle Inn will take place just as the Manor House adds a further two bedrooms through the refurbishment of a cottage within its grounds. The company is also currently expanding through the development of a £11.5m spa at South Lodge.

Stephen Browning, general manager of the Manor House, will take over the management of Castle Inn from the end of the month.
