Dakota Deluxe Manchester to open in May 2019

The opening of the latest hotel in the Dakota brand from former Hotelier of the Year Ken McCulloch has been confirmed for May 2019.

Dakota Deluxe Manchester will open with 137 bedrooms, including 27 suites, on Ducie Street, near Piccadilly Station. The 1,900 sq ft penthouse suite, named the Grand Deluxe, is set to be the largest suite in the city

It will feature the Grill, serving simple, brasserie-style food, the bar, Champagne Room and cigar garden. Amanda Rosa, McCulloch's wife, is heading the creative team behind the design of the new-build property.

The hotel is being developed at a cost of £30m by McCulloch in partnership with Evans Property Group and will join two existing Dakota Deluxe hotels in Glasgow and Leeds and two properties under the more accessible Dakota brand in South Queensferry, Edinburgh, and Eurocentral, on the outskirts of Glasgow.

McCulloch said: "Great cities deserve great hotels and I am excited to bring Dakota to Manchester".

The Dakota brand is named after the Douglas C-47 Dakota aircraft which become one of the world's most famous military transport planes during World War Two and has since been used by air forces and civilian operators worldwide.

McCulloch was named Hotelier of the Year in 1993 for his creation of One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow. The following year he launched the Malmaison brand, which he went on to sell 10 years later.
