Curtain hotel in Shoreditch to open Green Room cocktail bar

The Curtain hotel in London will launch the Green Room cocktail bar next month to mark its first birthday.

Heading up Green Room will be the 120-bedroom hotel's director of beverage, Jenny Willing, who joined last year ahead of its opening having previously opened Mondrian London's Dandelyan bar.

The bar will use local ingredients such as East London Liquor Company rum, Land Chocolate and E5 Bakery sourdough. The drinks have been inspired by Willing's favourite places in the area and will reflect the cultural diversity of Shoreditch. The MaBelle cocktail has been inspired by a walled rose garden in Victoria Park and Rough Trade, a drink with a Bangladeshi twist, by Brick Lane. A small menu of seasonal bar snacks will also be available.

Green Room will be taking over the space occupied by the Curtain's taqueria, Tienda Roosteria, which will cease operations on 12 April. Its tacos and frozen tequila cocktails will move into the Red Rooster restaurant and its new courtyard hatch bar. The space will close for a full renovation before reopening on 24 May, almost a year to the day that the hotel opened its doors on 26 May 2017.

The Green Room's interior has been designed by Ellie Horwell, with jewel-toned tiles juxtaposed against concrete surfaces and statement lighting as a nod to the hotel's industrial surroundings. The space also has velvet banquettes and curtains, and walls will be decorated with works from local artists and a custom-made neon centrepiece will hang above the bar.

The hotel's managing director Elli Jafari said: "Since opening we have watched and we have listened, and it's become clear that the thing our guests crave most is somewhere stylish and luxurious to enjoy an expertly-crafted cocktail. This is the new generation of hotel bar, and Jenny's new menu is going to propel our drinks offering to the next level."

The Curtain was the first European venture from New York hotelier Michael Achenbaum, the founder of the Gansevoort Hotel Group, and has a Red Rooster restaurant operated by New York-based chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson.
