Considerate Hotel of the Year Awards – call for entries

Hoteliers can now enter this year's Considerate Hotel of the Year Awards, which reward the best environmental performers.

Caterer and Hotelkeeper is supporting the awards for the first time as part of its Green Month, which will focus on environmental issues throughout October.

The awards are in their third year, and recognise hotels or guesthouses with more than six guest bedrooms that best meet environmental challenges.

Hotels can enter one or all of the challenges. Each challenge will have a champion, with the overall winner being named the Considerate Hotelier of the Year.

The four challenges are:

  • To save at least 30% on water and effluent bills between July and October 2006.
  • To reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill by at least 20% between July and October 2006.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to promoting seasonal British food on menus between July and October 2006.
  • To cut energy consumption by up to 15% by implementing a range of low-cost measures between July and October 2006.

Each award will go to the hotel or guesthouse that demonstrates the biggest saving or strongest commitment. Application forms from www.consideratehoteliers.com, or contact John Firrell on 01308 482313. Closing date is 24 November. For more information, see www.caterersearch.com.
