Carlson adds resort in Thailand Carlson Hotels Worldwide Asia Pacific is increasing its portfolio in Thailand with the opening of a new resort in Krabi in 2010. The Radisson Resort & Spa Krabi will be located on the Sri Boya Island in the Andaman Sea and will have 120 bedrooms and 44 suites. It will include a number of food and beverage outlets as well as a gym, spa and meeting facilities. The Radisson Resort & Spa Krabi brings the total number of Carlson hotels under development in Thailand to five: they include the Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok, Radisson Plaza Resort Phuket Panwa Beach, Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit and the Regent Bangkok.

Starwood to launch third property in China's Hainan Province
Starwood Hotels & Resorts is to launch its third property in the Hainan Province in China with the opening of the 261-bedroom Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach Resort & Spa in October 2008. The new hotel, which will be located on Hainan Island, will be set over more than 11 hectares of landscaped grounds and will include meeting and banqueting facilities. Starwood currently has 19 hotels and resorts in China with 17 properties under construction. The company plans to expand its Le Meridien and Starwood portfolio to 12,139 rooms and suites in the country by 2008.

Fairmont to open new hotel in Beijing
Fairmont is to launch a new hotel in China with the opening of the 25-storey Fairmont Beijing next summer. The 235-bedroom property will include restaurants, bars, a library lounge and function space, together with a multi-purpose theatre, a business centre and a 1,000sq m spa with fitness facilities and a swimming pool. Fairmont Beijing joins other recently announced projects in the region, including Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai and a future hotel development project on Macao's Cotai Strip.

Morgans Hotel Group president and CEO resigns
Morgans Hotel Group president and chief executive officer W Edward Scheetz has resigned from his position to "address personal issues". Company director Fred J Kleisner has been named as his interim replacement with immediate effect. Kleisner served as the chief executive officer of Wyndham International from 2000 to 2005 and was previously president and chief operating officer of the Americas for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. He said: "I look forward to working with the MHG Board and management team as we continue to build on the success of our strategy."

Hilton Garden Inn to launch in Poland
Hilton has announced the market entry of its Garden Inn brand in Poland for the fourth quarter of next year. The 102-bedroom Hilton Garden Inn Rzeszow will form part of the Millennium Hall retail, entertainment and business complex, comprising 180 shops and restaurants, an extensive congress and concert centre, multi-screen cinema complex as well as leisure and fitness facilities. Located in south-eastern Poland, about 150km from Krakow, Rzeszow is the administrative capital of the Podharpachie province. Earlier this year Hilton opened its first property in Poland, the 314-bedroom Hilton Warsaw Hotel & Convention Centre.
