Aurora Collection's Hotel Colessio delayed by building problems

The Aurora Collection's Hotel Colessio, that was due to open in Stirling last month, has suffered a further setback after hitting building snags.

The cost of the project to build the 55-bedroom hotel on the site of the former Stirling Royal Infirmary and NHS headquarters on Spittal Street, has doubled to £10m since work started in 2009, according to the Stirling Observer.

The hotel scheme's latest delay is said to be as a result of having to rebuild the entire roof.

A spokeswoman for McLeod told the paper: "This has been his most challenging project yet, but Steven is committed to Stirling.

"It's a historic building and there have been a lot of unforeseen issues along the way. But he's confident it will open in May 2014."

If Hotel Colessio does open by May 2014, as is planned, it will still be in time for the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games.
