Andrew McPherson joins Holbeck Ghyll country house hotel

Andrew McPherson has joined Holbeck Ghyll country house hotel, restaurant and spa in the Lake District as its new general manager.

The hotel, which changed ownership earlier this year, also has a restaurant with one Michelin star.

McPherson spent five years as general manager at Swinton Park hotel in North Yorkshire, where he headed up a team of over 70 staff. During his time there the hotel won several awards, including 2009 Yorkshire Hotel of the Year, awarded by Welcome to Yorkshire, and 2009 Green Business Award at the Yorkshire Rural Awards.

Prior to that, he was general manager at Skibo Castle for seven years. In 2000 he oversaw the wedding of Madonna and Guy Ritchie, which included guests such as Donatella Versace and Sting. In 2004 Robbie Williams chose the same venue for his 30th birthday celebrations, enlisting McPherson's help to pick out a tweed suit.
