Alvaro Rey appointed area general manager of InterContinental in London
Alvaro Rey has been promoted to area general manager for InterContinental Hotels in London.
In his new role he will continue as general manager of InterContinental London Park Lane, as well as overseeing the InterContinental London Westminster, which opened at the end of 2012.
Didier Boidin, vice president operations Western Europe for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), said: ‘Alvaro is an award-winning general manager who has enjoyed a 30-year career with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. He is a solid guardian of the InterContinental brand and there is no better ambassador to represent us in our home market'.
Rey began his career at InterContinental Medellin in 1984 in his native Colombia, after training at the Ecole Hôtelière Les Roches, Switzerland. During his time with the company, he has worked in North and South America, Middle East, Australia and Europe.
Since arriving as general manager of the InterContinental London Park Lane in 2009, Rey has helped increase revpar and reduced staff turnover, as well as win a plethora of awards including the title of best general manager (upscale/luxury) at the Worldwide Hospitality Awards 2012.

A third InterContinental hotel is set to open adjacent to the O2 in summer 2015.
