Alan Parker to receive Lifetime Achievement award in Berlin
Retiring Whitbread chief executive Alan Parker is to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th annual International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF), in Berlin next year.
The theme of the conference, being held at the InterContinental Berlin from 7 to 9 March 2011, is "Stand out from the Crowd" and Parker is said to fit this bill as one of the chief executives who has led from the front.
"We feel that his valuable experience in the industry and status as an extremely respected individual validates him as a true winner of the award," said Jonathan Worsley, co-organiser of IHIF.
"He led Whitbread through a hugely successful restructuring and his strategy of focusing on recession-friendly budget hotels, coffee bars and pub-restaurants has paid off with increasing revenues and profitability in arguably one of the most challenging trading conditions for a generation."
Parker, who joined Whitbread in 1992 and was promoted to chief executive in 2004, will be retiring from the company on 25 November, his 64th birthday.
The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award is selected by the IHIF Advisory Board comprised of patrons, sponsors, hosts and organisers.
