AccorHotels in talks to buy Mövenpick
French hotel group AccorHotels is in talks to buy Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, according to French newspaper Le Figaro.
AccorHotels declined to comment.
Switzerland-based Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is an international upscale hotel management company with 83 hotels, resorts and Nile cruisers in 24 countries.
AccorHotels has been on a buying spree over the past few years, particularly of online platforms such as ResDiary and Gekko.
It also bought a 50% stake in South Africa-based Mantis Group earlier this year, which has 28 boutique hotels and game reserves, and signed an agreement to buy Australia-based hotel and resort marketer and operator Mantra Group late last year.
The group acquired FRHI Holdings, the parent company of Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel, in 2016, which has given the group "much greater scope" for development in the luxury and upscale segments, said Thomas Dubaere, managing director of AccorHotels UK and Ireland, earlier this year.
