French hotelier Accor is showing signs of a strong recovery in the UK, USA, central Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America in its latest results.

But the group added that performance was still weak in southern Europe and the US budget sector.

Budget hotels grew like-for-like sales by 3% in France and by 4.7% across the rest of Europe, headed by Spain (up 13%) and the UK (up 9%).

In the USA, the economy sector's like-for-like sales grew by just 2.4%.

Restaurant sales were up by 7% from g208,000 (£132,000) to g223,000 (£148,000).
