Accor figures show mixed fortunes
French hotelier Accor is showing signs of a strong recovery in the UK, USA, central Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America in its latest results.
But the group added that performance was still weak in southern Europe and the US budget sector.
In the six months to 30 June, hotel sales grew by 4.8% from g2.34m (£1.55m) to g2.45m (£1.63m). Like-for-like sales grew by 7.1% among upscale and mid-market brands, led by a 19.8% boost in the USA and a 13% increase in the UK, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
Budget hotels grew like-for-like sales by 3% in France and by 4.7% across the rest of Europe, headed by Spain (up 13%) and the UK (up 9%).
In the USA, the economy sector's like-for-like sales grew by just 2.4%.
Restaurant sales were up by 7% from g208,000 (£132,000) to g223,000 (£148,000).
