£15m extension gets underway at Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club

The addition of £15m, 47-bedroom extension and a luxury spa will turn the Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club, on the outskirts of Durham, into one of the largest resort hotels in the north of England.

Due to open in May 2015, the 32,500sq ft spa will include a 25m swimming pool, four therapy, 10 treatment rooms, a gym, hair salon and Asian restaurant. The new bedrooms will turn the property into a 127-bedroom hotel.

John Adamson, group managing director of Ramside Hall, said: "We've had the plans for the hotel extension and a world class spa in the pipeline for six years, so I'm delighted that work has finally started on site.

"We've travelled far and wide to gather our inspiration and visited some of the best spa hotels in the UK and beyond. With the opening of our new 18-hole golf course this summer and the addition of the spa in 2015, Ramside Hall will be the biggest and leading Spa Resort Hotel in the North of England."

Architect firm Padgett White has designed the extension, while Walter Thompson is undertaking the construction work.
