Women 1st Shine Awards now open for nominations

Women 1st has opened nominations for its annual Shine Awards, sponsored by Unilever Food Solutions.

Now in their 10th year, the awards aim to increase the number of women working in senior positions in hospitality and the wider tourism and visitor sectors by celebrating their achievements. They also acknowledge the mentors and businesses that support the career development of women.

Past Shine winners include McDonald's Restaurants; Jill Stein, director of the Seafood Restaurant; Robyn Jones OBE, co-founder of CH&Co; and Drake & Morgan entrepreneur Jillian MacLean.

Women 1st director, Simone Roche, said: "Our research shows that women report a lack of visible role models as one of the biggest barriers to their career progress, and we're passionate about changing that.

"Winning a Women 1st Shine Award is a brilliant way for women to raise their own profile and for businesses to shout about why they are a great employer for women."

The categories for the 2014 awards are: Rising Star; Stepping Up; Outstanding Entrepreneur; Mentor of the Year; Woman of the Year; Lifetime Achievement; Small Business; and Large Business.

Nominations close on 7 July and can be made at www.women1st.co.uk/awards. They are free to enter and the winners will be announced at a dinner at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square on 16 September.

• Nominations also close on 7 July for the Women 1st Top 100 Club. Ten more women will be inducted into the prestigious network, which already includes hotelier Alex Polizzi, chef Angela Hartnett and broadcaster and writer Prue Leith. Members act as ambassadors and role models for the female leaders of tomorrow. Log on to: www.women1st.co.uk/top-100.
