Welcome Break in deal with newsagent WH Smith to open 30-plus stores

Roadside caterer and service provider Welcome Break is to open 33 WH Smith travel stores after a successful pilot early this year.

The existing stores will be refitted and rebranded under the WH Smith banner during this year and will be operated under franchise.

It follows a successful trial of the newsagent at the Welcome Break service area on the M1 at Newport Pagnell in February this year.

Rod McKie, Welcome Break's chief executive, said: "The last two years have seen significant growth in customer revenues at Welcome Break and this has been due, in no small part, to our introduction of proven high street brands in our motorway service areas"
