Sodexho wins £140m Manchester PFI hospitals contract

Contract catering giant Sodexho has landed a seven-year, £140m contract to run catering, portering and maintenance operations at five Manchester hospitals.

The company is part of a consortium called Catalyst Healthcare, which is redeveloping the five hospitals through a five-year £380m private finance initiative (PFI) project.

Sodexho's contract is worth £20m a year, with the catering element running for seven years initially.

The hospitals, which come under the Central Manchester and Manchester Children's University Hospitals NHS Trust, will all open in 2009, with a staff of 10,000.
