Réunion des Gastronomes 2019 award open for entries

The 2019 Réunion des Gastronomes President's Award, the third year of the competition, is now open for entries

The winner will receive mentoring by senior members of the hospitality industry, the chance to attend five Réunion des Gastronome events in the year, a range of development experiences and two years' associate membership of the organisation, believed to be the oldest culinary organisation in the UK.

Last year's winner Andras Lakezi (pictured), food and drink manager at the Kimpton Fitzroy London, was able to judge the Institute of Hospitality's UK Restaurant Manager of the Year finals at the Savoy in January, and plans are in place for him to study for the WSET qualifications.

The award is open to anyone working full-time, at a team management level or above, in food and beverage services in the hospitality industry in the UK. Closing date for applications is 2 August 2019 and full details are on the website.

To enter, candidates have to provide a written application form, a CV, endorsements from employers and another industry professionals, and written responses to four questions.

All finalists will receive an invitation to attend the Gastronome's annual grouse supper on 23 September prior to the judging panel's final decision. They will also each receive an invitation for them (and guest) to attend the annual banquet on 1 November when the winner will be announced. The remaining finalists will receive certificates and an invitation to become an associate member.

The judging panel comprises: John Cousins, the chair of the judges, director of the Food & Beverage Training Company; Alison Frith, vice president of the Réunion des Gastronomes and managing director of Artizian Catering Services; hospitality consultant Theresa Maw; Serge Pradier, director of food and beverage at the Royal Air Force Club and immediate past president of the Réunion.

The Réunion des Gastronomes was formed officially in London in August 1899 with the aim of raising the standards of hotel keeping and catering, promoting stability of employment and exchanging ideas. Members span the industry, including hotels, clubs, caterers, sports stadia, universities, event companies and consultants.
