Operators urged to add £1 to each bill for Hospitality Action Week

Operators across the country are being asked to add £1 to each bill as part of fundraising initiatives for Hospitality Action Week.

Taking place from 13-19 May, the fifth Hospitality Action Week raises money for some of the most vulnerable members of the hospitality industry.

The charity is calling for all industry sectors to take part. It has suggested hotels, pubs, restaurants and contract caterers consider adding £1 to each bill for the week, organising race nights, prize draws and sell recipe cards.

Hospitality Action chief executive Penny Moore said: "The past four HA Weeks have been jammed packed with supporters across the country doing their bit for the charity. From managing directors to college students, everyone has gone that extra mile and this year we really want to build on the momentum. Please do plan to carry out some fundraising for us this May.

"Whether you raise £5 by collecting your loose change for the week or £5,000 by getting sponsored to cycle to Paris, your contribution really will make an enormous difference to those in need."

Ways to get involved

•Sell a recipe card - publish a recipe card for your most popular dish and sell it for £3.
•Prize draw for a free meal - link up with local businesses to sell tickets, all you need to supply is the prize!
•Auction your chef - give your customers the opportunity to host the ultimate dinner party by auctioning off your
chef's skills for a night.
•Posh cake sale - tempt your diners into a dessert by selling them a cake box to take it away in.
•Recipe competition - invite your customers to submit their recipes for a small fee and feature the
winning dish on your menu.
•Luggage service - charge customers £1 to carry their luggage to and from their rooms.
•Room upgrades - offer you customers a room upgrade and donate the difference in price to Hospitality Action.
•Donate a percentage of any spa treatment, meal or room service charge - it's also a great way to
promote these services to your customers!
