New framework allows operators to prove responsible sourcing objectives

A new framework has been established to enable operators to more easily report and prove their sustainability credentials to clients.

Developed by procurement specialist Acquire Services, the Green10 initiative is a tool that allows operators to set their own responsible sourcing goals and report their achievements or analyse where they are falling short.

The framework includes 10 key metrics (though operators can engage with just those that suit them), including food mileage, local sourcing, packaging and food waste.

Operators define how they wish to be measured through Acquire Services' procurement platform and are then able to shape their buying practices and accurately measure their progress.

Acquire commercial director Ed Bevan said: "Green10 will help any food service business identify and monitor a range of unique responsible sourcing goals; crucially, the initiative also provides the means by which any commitment to improvement may be measured.

"The online dashboard allows visibility of all key parameters, configured to a unit's parameters in terms of Green10. This can be rolled into a larger report for head office. It will grow into a substantial resource for caterers."
