McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year 2017 open for entries

The search to find the next McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year is now underway after Premier Foods opened the online registration for the 2017 competition yesterday (3 January).

School caterers will be required to lead a team of three children aged seven to 11 to create one sweet and one savoury recipe using McDougalls flour.

Following the success of last year's competition, Premier Foods has decided to continue with the provenance theme which will require teams to use a locally sourced ingredient produced within 30 miles of their school.

Sarah Robb, channel marketing manager at Premier Foods, said: "After being blown away by the creativity we have seen over the past two years, we are extremely excited to be launching this competition.

"We are passionate about helping to inspire children to cook through the McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year and last year's theme of using local ingredients was so popular, we are bringing it back."

She added: "Spaldwick Community Primary School used eggs which were laid by local chickens, and strawberries grown nearby to make their winning profiteroles. They certainly set the bar high and we look forward to seeing what this year's teams will be baking."

Recipes will be judged by a panel including representatives from the Lead Association for Catering in Education (LACA), the Craft Guild of Chefs and Premier Foods.

The winning team will be presented with a trophy and £1,000 worth of kitchen equipment for their school.

Registration is open until 17 March with recipes to be submitted by 2 June. The live final will take place at the LACA Main Event on 6 July 2017.

To register visit www.premierfoodservice.co.uk. Teams will receive a McDougalls toolkit which includes product samples, an application form and recipe inspiration.
