Levy Restaurants scores new £300m contract at Twickenham

Compass Group's Levy Restaurants has renewed its catering and hospitality partnership with Rugby Football Union (RFU) at Twickenham Stadium in a deal worth more than £300m.

The 10-year contract is expected to deliver annual revenue in excess of £30m to the RFU Group with the profits used to facilitate investment in the game at all levels.

The caterer's sports and leisure brand will continue to provide match day catering, hospitality and bar services, as well as non-match day catering, conference and event management at the iconic sports venue in an extension to the original Twickenham Experience Ltd (TEL) joint venture, which began in 2000.

Levy Restaurants UK's sales specialist, Lime Venue Portfolio, will continue to support TEL operations at the 82,000-capacity stadium, working with the JV to deliver non match day events, while Keith Prowse will continue to promote the match day hospitality.

Stephen Brown, chief financial officer, RFU and chairman of TEL, described how the partnership with Compass Group over the past 14 years led to the contract renewal process being brought forward.

"This strong relationship has instilled a great deal of confidence in our joint venture and has facilitated the bringing forward of the contract renewal process 12 months to this year," he said.

"The new 10-year contract will allow us to continue to develop and innovate our match day and conference and events offering as well as to set an ambitious, standard setting long term strategy for the Twickenham Experience Ltd business."

Investment in the catering and hospitality facilities has seen the upgrade of 17 public bars at the stadium over the last year, as well as the West Car Park Fan Village, with up-to-date technologies incorporated in a bid to enhance the customer experience.

Colin Bailey, managing director, sports, leisure and hospitality, Compass Group UK & Ireland said: "As a partnership we have made a considerable investment to the development of facilities and staff at Twickenham. The contract renewal is testament to the partnership we have with the RFU and the commitment we share to delivering an exceptional experience for visitors to the stadium."

Last year TEL's public bars and catering units served more than a million event day guests, at 19 events and more than 49,000 hospitality covers catered for on match days, while the non-match day conference and events business achieved revenues of £4.5m.
