Hospitality leadership academy to boost managers' skills
A new international hospitality leadership academy is to be set-up to improve the skills of managers, it was revealed yesterday at the Master Innholders General Manager's Conference in London.
The International Academy for Hospitality Leadership intends to run a three-day hospitality leadership masterclass alongside a two-day team leader training course.
The courses were designed after consultant trainer Alan Cutler, in conjunction with Nigel Hemmington the head of the school of services management at Bournemouth University, conducted research with 12 industry leaders into what they considered to be key leadership qualities.
The study found most of the panel felt leaders had to have vision, be able to listen and communicate and build relationships based on trust, consistency and transparency.
The majority also felt that leadership skills were different from management skills as leadership was about inspiring others to follow, whereas management was about process and control.
