Healthier Smash from Premier Foods

20 February 2007 by

Smash instant potato mix has beamed back into the food service sector in a healthier and more versatile guise - even though the new packaging harks back to the Martians of the awarding-winning 1970s TV commercials. Premier Foods has reformulated the recipe to comply with new Food Standards Agency guidelines for schools, so there are no artificial colours or flavours, no hydrogenated vegetable fats, and lower salt levels (less than 1% per serving). The formula uses real potatoes and full-cream milk and can be used as a hot or cold mix. Smash Foodservice is supplied in cases of six 2kg packs, with each pack providing between 61 and 68 servings.
