Cateys 2013: Le Gavroche and Simon Rogan in double wins

Both Le Gavroche and Simon Rogan scored doubles at the 30th Cateys last night, collecting two trophies each at the hospitality industry's most prestigious awards ceremony.

Silvano Giraldin, who spent 37 years front of house at Le Gavroche until he retired five years ago, picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award at the gala dinner on Tuesday at the Grosvenor House hotel in London.

And his longtime colleague, TV personality and two-Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr, chef-patron of the restaurant, picked up the Special Award.

Both were praised for their efforts promoting front-of-house careers over the past 12 months.

Commenting on Giraldin's award, Caterer and Hotelkeeper group editor Mark Lewis said: "In 37 years of loyal service at Le Gavroche, Silvano redefined great front-of-house service and inspired new generations of restaurant managers."

It is unprecedented for one person to win both chef and restaurateur awards in one year and it tops a busy year for Rogan who achieved two Michelin stars in October 2012 and headed the relaunch of the French restaurant at the Midland hotel, Manchester, to rave reviews in March.
