Catering equipment market to be worth £980m-plus in 2011

The UK catering equipment market will be worth more than £980m at present day prices in 2011, according to a new report.

Market & Business Development's (MBD) latest study predicts the market will increase steadily to £981.6m in 2011, fuelled by demand from the growing restaurant market and expansion in the catering sector.

From 2002 to 2006 the catering equipment market grew 16% in value to £907.8m, although growth over the next five years in real terms is expected to be much lower, just one to two per cent a year.

During this time MBD expects cooking equipment sales to account for 33% of the total catering equipment market.

Sales within the bar equipment sector are also expected to climb, up 8% to £181.8m in the five years to 2011.
