Bread bowls from Butt Foods
An addition to the £2m speciality bread market is a line of breads baked hollow in the shape of a bowl so the insides are sealed and strong enough to hold soups or curries yet soft and light enough to eat. They can be served hot or cold and will microwave from frozen in one minute. Uses include light bites such as roasted vegetables, tuna mayonnaise or salads breakfast dishes such as fry-ups and scrambled eggs and main meals such as chillis, steaks and ale stews. Nottingham-based Butt Foods supplies four flavours - white, Indian naan, Italian ciabatta and Mediterranean herb - in cases of 12 bread bowls, with minimum orders of 112 cases. The bowls are sold frozen and have an eight- to 10-day chilled life after defrost. They won the Home Grown Cereals Authority Enterprise Award 2005.
