Bell House Hotel, Suffolk, goes into administration

The Bell House hotel in Saxmundham, Suffolk, has gone into administration, it has been confirmed.

The closure was reportedly very sudden, with employees arriving at work on 28 June expecting to meet new owners, only to be informed the hotel was shutting its doors. This is the second Saxmundham hotel to close since October last year.

Ken Howe, local councillor and vice-chairman of business association Businesses of Saxmundham, said: "The last thing we need is two hotels closed. We have lost two focal points for social gatherings; both premises were busy on the weekends with social drinkers, and now most people are wondering where to go, or just drink out of town. Whichever way you look at it, it's not good."

However, he did suggest that a potential buyer may be interested in the premises, and said he hoped to see the hotel re-opened if possible.

Norwich-based administrators Larking-Gowen declined to comment.
