Ellenborough Park operator appointed to oversee five-star Blackpool hotel

Ellenborough Park operator M&T Hotel Management has been appointed to oversee the Sands Venue Resort Hotel and Spa in Blackpool when it opens later this year.

The 96-bedroom property will become Blackpool's only five-star hotel and is being developed by Scunthorpe United FC chairman Peter Swann's Coolsilk Property & Investment business. It is expected to have a gross development value of £15m-£18m on completion and replaces the former Palatine hotel, a Victorian building demolished in the 1970s.

As well as the five-AA-star Ellenborough Park in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, M&T manages the University Arms hotel in Cambridge and Hilton hotels in Bournemouth and Manchester Airport.

Swann said: "We're very excited to be launching the Sands Venue Resort Hotel and Spa later this year. It will bring a fresh lease of life to Blackpool's hospitality scene.

"To help deliver our vision we are working with M&T, a leading international hospitality management company, who operate a number of five-star properties across the country – they continue to be a great support to us".

Peter Hales, managing director of M&T Hotel Management, said: "The Sands Venue Resort Hotel and Spa is an exciting project in our growing portfolio and the first five-star hotel in Blackpool. We are looking forward to working with the hotel team to bring their vision to life".
