Eden Project hotel "on hold"

Plans to develop a 109-bedroom, £8.5m hotel at Cornwall's Eden Project have been put "on hold", although a spokesperson has confirmed the hotel is still set to go ahead.

An Eden Project spokesperson said: "We are still planning to build a hotel at Eden but the project is currently on hold. Our plan is to utilise the clean heat and energy from our forthcoming geothermal project to make the hotel an exemplar of sustainable tourism with the aim of making it carbon neutral or better."

Planning permission was originally granted by Cornwall Council in June 2015 and the hotel was expected to open in April 2018; altered design and layout plans were submitted in 2018 and the launch date rescheduled for spring 2020.
